Ellie Mulhern is a Scottish-based artist who creates enchanting landscapes that capture the beauty of the hills, coastline and the Northern Lights.
Before photography, it was only through art that the Aurora Borealis could be captured and recorded at all. With the development of photography, scientists and artists could begin to understand and capture this natural wonder.
Born and brought up in the Shetland Isles, Ellie is no stranger to the stunning shows of the Aurora are somewhat common, pending on the right conditions.
She says, “I am inspired by their beauty and have always been fascinated by the night sky and the Universe. A few years ago friends of mine Maurice Henderson and Craig Mann took some amazing photographs of the Aurora and from it I was able to develop my technique for capturing it in my paintings.Once you have develop your technique then its all about having the patience during the process of capturing them in a piece of work.”
