Born and bred in Ayrshire, Kevin O’Rourke resides in Kilwinning with his young family.
He cites Peter Howson and Frank McFadden as his inspiration for his work and has been likened to that of Howson’s, the similarities being in his use of dark themes and his portrayal of the human anatomy. However, his work varies from bright countryside scenes in pastels to dark and brooding motifs in acrylics. He is also known to experiment with his methods of applying paint to canvas/board, sometimes using needles for a more textured look.
Kevin has entered a number of small exhibitions in Scotland, and his work can be seen in Gordon Cockburn’s gallery in Maybole. His first solo exhibition took place at the Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine, Ayrshire. It was during this time that Kevin gained new admirers of his work and the almost tortured techniques he applies to create them.
His work has been published in a number of magazines from the UK to New York.
