Steve Burgess

Steve is a mainly self-taught artis and is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the best wildlife artists in the world. He is also recognised as one of the world’s leading aviation artists, having painted many commissioned pieces for the United States Air Force and The Royal Canadian Air Force. Since 1995, Steve has concentrated on painting the natural world and its infinite diversity.

Steve says, “My inspiration has come from the places I have travelled to and the animals and landscapes that surround them. I like to try and paint scenes that can awaken something that is seemingly familiar within the viewer. Steve believes there is nothing like seeing the animals close up on the planes of Africa, and he tries to make at least one visit a year back to those vast African planes where he can experience some of the worlds best wildlife in there natural habitat.

Steve hasn’t always been a professional artist. In 1980 he joined the Royal Air Force as a photographer. The training he received was comprehensive in every photographic discipline, and this period would prove to have been invaluable in future years, enabling Steve to capture photographic reference material for his paintings, to a professional standard.

Around 2004 after serving 8 years in the Avon and Somerset Police Force Steve took the plunge to become a full time artist. It was a risk leaving a secure job for life but as things transpired it was the right move for Steve as he now enjoys seeing his career as an artist go from strength to strength and regularly takes part in exhibitions throughout the UK and America.
